Service Above Self Award - Covington Fire Department
Chief Mark Young presented four awards: 2 firemen received awards for"Heroism" Paramedic David Geiger and EMT Brett Hodorowski. As a team they revived a 48 year old man who was unconscious, unresponsive and without a pulse on May 20,2009. He is fully recovered today because of these two firemen's quick action and leadership abilities in the face of overwhelming odds, they saved his life. The second award, the "Self Improvement" award went to Lieutenant Dan Mathew. Never satisfied with the status quo in his 20 years of service in the department, Lt.Mathew is lead tactical medic for the swat team, teaches continuing education, and does budgeting and maintaining emergency medical equipment. The "Administrative Award," went to Battalion Chief Seth Poston for his outstanding performance as chairperson of the fire department's grant committee. Under Chief Poston supervision, the fire department was able to secure several grants over the years totaling roughly $620,000. The Rotary Club of Covington awarded $500 to the Fireman's Foundation to be used to create an Explorers training program to introduce Covington's young people to careers in the Fire Department.
